Day 4 - K2K

(Mon, 29 May 2000)

Memorial day weekend at Kerrville... One can understand, how some people choose to skip this weekend.. Too crazy.. too many people.. too many cars.. too much testosterone running around... Mainstage area is packed, mosh pit is packed.. and there's not even a dance band in sight..

Exhaustion starts to creep in, and i elect to sleep in the RV for a few hours this afternoon (4:30 - 7:30)... Boy, that was really refreshing.. i needed it.. I've been running on comparatively low energy this year.. Not sure why...

The ballad tree was again packed, with Chris and magda performing about half way through. I always get great pleasure from watching and listening to people while they're being exposed to (and blown away by) chris for the first time. The funny thing about chris and magda, is i've known her for about 5 years, and have always enjoyed her as a performer. But i never had the vision to see the two of them together. Let me tell you... this fits.. She fits, he fits, they are GREAT together. Magda looks like she's having the time of her life. You just can't wipe the smile off that kerrvirgin..

Another item i forgot to mention, is that these reports often go out unedited.. i.e. the fingers are quicker than the mind, which is not always fully, or partially functioning here on a regular basis..

so, to correct something from day 3:
re: Suzanne Buirgy:

>Better yet, go grab her CD. She's got a new CD in
>the works, but, take this opportunity and support
>this tremendous talent and this stage in her career.
>s/b AT this stage of her career.

The only mandatory mainstage act for me tonight was Chuck Pyle. Although i wasn't crazy about his opening song, overall, it was either one of the best performances i've seen him give, or i was just more into the moment this time. He was absolutely super. I think it may have something to do with Gordon Bird(?) his fiddle-playing sideman.. I don't think Chuck has played w/ gordon here for many years. And Gordon certainly adds to chuck's on-stage persona.

Some of Chuck's more memorable bumper sticker sayings from last night:

"You know you've created god in your own image when he hates the same people you do."

"Spend your time with people who are searching for the truth. Avoid the ones who say they've found it"

The campfires were crazy last night. Cuisine was packed, Singkerrnicity was a large circle, Coho was relatively quiet, as the good father flanagan had a relatively early evening. Nashbill was busy, as was Nashville. Stupid was filled to capacity on the inside, and had some onlookers standing by the tent openings. Chris Chandler, Magda Hiller, Ann Feeney (and other's i'm sure) held guerilla court at a packed threadgill theatre.

After spending a couple of hours bailing out the water and drying out the contents of my tent, it was sleepable last night. My tent is ideally situated, in full shade (i slept till 11:30, no sun).. And i was able to drift off to sleep listening to Patty Casey, and lastly to Stephanie Corby do an early morning rendition of Cornelious from (i think), camp nashville. I need to remember to tell her how nice it was to fall asleep with her.

Damn, i missed the beep and forgot to put the raisins in... Oh well, two more loaves without raisins... Life can be tough sometimes.. But, what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger..

some people come into your life for a reason,
some for a season,
and some, for a lifetime
welcome home..
